This charming cottage, named Winterhaven, was built in 1904 as the first and only winterized residence at Buck Hill. Robert Benson, the property manager for the Buck Hill Falls Company, constructed this year-round cottage as his home which also served as a welcome center for Buck Hill Falls in the off season since the Inn operated only during the warmer months. As a result, potential cottage owners would visit and even stay at Winterhaven, while selecting a lot to have their cottage built. The Benson’s also often housed guests and cottagers of Buck Hill when the Inn was closed for the season.
Winterhaven has three floors of living space. As you enter from the front door, the library is on the left and the powder room to the right. In the front of the hall is the living room to the left and the formal dining room to the right. At the center of the hall is a door to the covered porch, which overlooks the wooded backyard and has seating and dining areas. Through the dining room you access either the great room, which has a fireplace and tv, at the far end or the kitchen to the right. The kitchen and living room also connect with access to an exterior side door to the grilling deck. The interior stairs lead to the family/rec room under the living room and access to the laundry room, down the ramp.
The second floor has four bedrooms and a central hall bath. The Master bedroom (king bed) has an ensuite bathroom and the second TV. The middle bedroom has a single twin bed. The King room has a king bed and the Butterfly room has two twin beds. The larger hall closet has extra linens, pillows, iron, soaps, and a rollaway bed.
The third floor has two bedrooms and a hall bath. The room to the left is the Queen room with a single queen bed. The room on the right is the Bunk room with 4 single beds.
The newly renovated Kitchen is well equipped with all the basics including a Keurig coffee maker.
The Family/rec room below has a number of games, Lincoln logs, legos, etc, as well as an exercise mat. There is working juke box with a wide variety of songs to enjoy.
In the basement, the first room is the laundry room with washer and dryer as well as iron and ironing board, mop, vacuum cleaner, broom, cleaning supplies, and extra paper products for your use.
